Students, faculty and staff can once again touch down at the Pullman airport, which reopens to commercial air traffic today following a monthlong closure while crews transitioned to a new runway.
The airport's runway was shutdown beginning Sept. 8 to shift from its existing runway to a new, longer runway equipped with an instrument landing system, a radio navigation tool that will aid crews in times of inclement weather. It's also capable of accommodating larger commercial aircraft.
A ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the new runway took place on Thursday. The first commercial flight using the new runway is scheduled for Oct. 11.
More than 5,600 passengers flew out of Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport in September of 2018, an increase of more than 2,000 passengers from five years prior.
