Now in its third year, the event is part of Coventry City Council's Child Friendly Cov programme and is delivered in collaboration with the University of Warwick. It reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to support young people across the city.
Martin Price, Associate Director - Regional Engagement at the University of Warwick, said: "The University is committed to playing a part in making Coventry a great place to grow up, and giving space to young people to make their voices heard is a really important part of that work.
"We're excited to welcome another fantastic group of young people this year, and we're looking forward to working to put their ideas into action in the coming months."
Held on campus, the day brought together Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to take part in workshops and discussions focused on three key themes:
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Aspirations and Future Champions
- Youth Leadership and Empowerment
Many of the workshops were led by young people themselves, providing a different perspective and giving participants the chance to learn from their peers.
The event also included an interactive panel discussion with civic leaders and concluded with a session exploring political parties, where pupils voted on which they would support and why.
Cllr Patricia Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "The Pupil Parliament seems to get bigger and better every year and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the panel. The young people had some challenging questions and the discussions were really lively. Events like this help us to know what is important to our children and young people as we work to give them the city they deserve."
Cllr Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, added: "All the pupils are a credit to their families and to their schools and teachers. They had some great ideas and showed such confidence and knowledge. The Parliament is about far more than just listening - it is about taking action, and now we have to work with our young people to see how we can shape the future of our city together."
An action plan will now be developed based on the discussions and ideas raised on the day, ensuring that young people's contributions are taken forward.
