Pursuit and arrest at Mackay

Police have arrested three people including a man wanted in connection with more than 42 alleged property offences following a pursuit through Mackay this afternoon.

It will be alleged an off-duty police officer saw the man in a white Mitsubishi Triton that was stolen from Woree on March 19 driving through Andergrove around 2.50pm.

Multiple police units attended and tracked the ute as it travelled along Harbour Road in North Mackay.

An attempt to deploy a tyre deflation device on Harbour Road was unsuccessful so police continued to follow the vehicle at a distance.

It is further alleged that the ute travelled along Palmer Street on incorrect side of the road and collided with another vehicle causing minor damage.

The ute then reversed into two stationary police vehicles. The male driver was quickly taken into custody by officers at the scene along with two female passengers.

A 21-year-old Sarina man, 29-year-old Andergrove woman and a 24-year-old South Mackay woman are assisting with inquiries into a series of offences being investigated by Mackay detectives spanning across Mackay, Townsville and Cairns districts over the past two weeks.
