Pursuit through West East and South ends in arrest, South Australia

A man has been charged following a lengthy PolAir pursuit through the Metro area overnight.

At 11.55pm Thursday 27 May patrols spotted a stolen 2019 grey Ford Ranger travelling on Torrens Road at Brompton. Patrols activated their emergency lights to stop the car but it failed to do so and took off. Police pursued the ute for about four minutes before PolAir took over and patrols terminated.

PolAir was able to then rack the vehicle as it travelled in loops around Torrens Road, Pym Street, South Road, Hanson Road, and Woodville Road before heading on Port Road toward the city.

From Port Road it continued into the CBD via West Terrace, Currie Street then south on King William and out of the city. The Ford travelled around the back streets of Goodwood, before heading west out to South Road via Victoria Street and Aroha Terrace.

The car continued west, cutting through back streets in Glandore and South Plympton before popping out on Marion Road. The car stayed in the Plympton Park/ Morphettville area for a while doing loops of back streets, before heading right over to Glenelg.

The Ford then went north on Tapleys Hill Road right up to Old Port Road, before again heading toward the city on Port Road. The car was spiked on Port Road but continued into the city where it started doing loops, around Franklin Street, Pulteney Street, Gouger Street, South Terrace, King William Street and Wakefield Street, it even went down Hindley Street.

About 1.15am the car was again spiked, this time on Currie Street, it cut through to Waymouth Street where it collided with a police car and crashed into a tree in Light Square. Here patrols pounced on the driver, a 33-year-old Brompton man, and placed him under arrest.

Thankfully there were no injuries to police, the public or the man. The car was towed from the scene as an exhibit.

He has been charged with multiple serious driving offences, including illegal use of motor vehicle, dangerous driving to escape police pursuit, driving disqualified and breaching bail. He has been refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
