Push to revive international education sector

Study Cairns will embark on a $167,000 program to revive the Cairns international education and training sector following a two-year dormancy due to COVID-19.

Council has endorsed $50,000 in funding to support the program, which will include advertising in international media, production of promotional materials, online portals and inbound famils for international education and training agents.

The international education and training sector was estimated to have contributed $121 million to the Cairns economy prior to COVID-19 pandemic.

As a key contributor to the economy, the funding agreement acknowledges Council understanding that support is required for the sector to reach pre-COVID levels, both in terms of student numbers and economic activity.

This latest funding commitment complements core Council funding of $50,000 provided to Study Cairns in July 2021.
