Dedicated staff and volunteers from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services' (QFES) Brisbane Region were recognised today at the 2020 Australia Day Achievement Awards.
Acting Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Di Farmer said commemorative pins were awarded in recognition of outstanding character, integrity and leadership.
"This year we will present 72 awards to QFES members across the state who have made significant contributions to building connected and capable communities," Ms Farmer said.
"These awards allow us to publicly thank those who have devoted themselves to supporting Queenslanders to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
"The recent bushfire crisis in New South Wales has also shown the willingness of our staff and volunteers to assist their interstate colleagues in their time of greatest need.
"We also acknowledge individuals and organisations who have supported QFES, including employers who have released volunteer firefighters to help battle the bushfires and local community businesses who have supported our people.
"Congratulations to all of our award recipients for supporting our communities when they need it most."
QFES Commissioner Greg Leach congratulated the ceremony's 23 staff and volunteer and seven individual award winners for their outstanding work within local communities.
"These people have gone above and beyond their call and have contributed significantly to Queenslanders feeling they are in safe hands when disaster strikes.
"I would like to thank our sponsor QSuper for their ongoing support of QFES and the Australia Day Achievement Awards.
"I am immensely proud of all our award winners today and thank them for their contributions over the last 12 months."
