Qfly eradication supports improved fruit trade

The United States of America has accepted Australia's advice to reinstate the Northern Tasmania and Loxton area of the Riverland, South Australia, pest free area (PFA).

This follows the successful eradication of Queensland fruit fly from these regions.

Exports of fruit fly host commodities from these regions to the USA can now re-commence under pest free conditions. These conditions remove the need for additional treatment requirements for exports, which saves producers time and money.

All Australian states and territories have also agreed to accept PFA certified fruit from these regions.

The department continues to work with other key trading partners through our agricultural counsellors.
