Quambatook Weir Upgrades To Make Splash

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is investing in summer fun for Quambatook, with works now underway to transform the local weir pool into an exciting aquatic precinct, boosting visitation and liveability for the area.

Minister for Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes, today announced that upgrades to the weir pool have commenced, supported by more than $2 million from the Labor Government via Regional Development Victoria.

The project is expected to create 15 jobs during construction and help grow and diversify the local economy by drawing more visitors and making the town a more attractive home for regional workers.

Works at the Quambatook Weir will deliver infrastructure to support more consistent water levels in the pool, protecting local aquatic habitats and providing better opportunities for water-based recreation.

Launching areas will be constructed for boats, kayaks and canoes, as well as fishing jetties and platforms. The shoreline will be upgraded with picnic facilities, while trees will be planted to beautify the area and provide shade during the hotter months.

New tracks and trails will link the weir to the heart of Quambatook's town centre, providing easy access between the aquatic precinct, traders, and the local caravan parks and sports precinct. People will also have access to the eastern banks of the river thanks to a new bridge that will be placed near River Street.

Once complete, the project will help bring more tourism to Quambatook by revitalising the town and creating a nature-based aquatic destination for locals and visitors.

Support for the project forms part of our record $47 billion investment in just over a decade towards projects that are making regional cities and towns even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study. For more information, go to rdv.vic.gov.au.
