Council is excited to announce that the Canberra Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is returning to the Queanbeyan River for a performance on Saturday 29 February.
This will be the fourth year that the CSO has performed in Queanbeyan, in what has become a highlight in Queanbeyan's cultural calendar. The performance is proudly supported by Council and Icon Water.
"I am eagerly anticipating the return of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra to our beautiful Queanbeyan River," Cr Tim Overall, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Mayor said.
"It is always a brilliant event in a picturesque location. I encourage everyone to put this in their calendars as a must-do event."
Icon Water Managing Director, Ray Hezkial said that "Icon Water are proud to partner with Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council for the fourth year running to bring the classical sounds of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra back to the Canberra and Queanbeyan community, from the banks of the Queanbeyan River. It really is an event not to be missed."
The CSO has been embraced by the Queanbeyan-Palerang audience, with attendance growing at each event since 2017.
"Music is so important for community life," said Rachel Thomas, CEO of the CSO.
"It's our pleasure to support this event again in 2020, in partnership with Icon Water and the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council."
This year's open-air concert will feature works from Mozart, Vivaldi, Haydn, Elgar and others.
"We are thrilled to be performing some of our favourite pieces of music for this beautiful evening by the river," said Kirsten Williams, CSO Concertmaster.
Attendees can book seats on the terraced amphitheatre, with prices between $10 and $15 (plus booking fee). General admission on the sloping grass banks and around the park is free. General admission bookings are to assist with event planning, no seating locations are allocated.
This year the performance will be amplified to both sides of the river allowing an opportunity to enjoy the performance from both Queen Elizabeth II Park and the grass slopes near Ray Morton Park.
There will be a wide variety of quality food and drink vendors available, or you can bring your own picnic. Entertainment begins at 5pm, with the CSO playing between 6-8pm.
