The Crisafulli Government has thrown its support behind plans to deliver bold, world-leading tourism offerings on the Gold Coast including plans for Australia's largest zipline tour and a new surf park.
These two new Gold Coast attractions are being delivered through a shared commitment from the Crisafulli Government and private sector partners to strengthen tourism.
It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and getting on with the job of taking the State's tourism industry to the next level.
A $4 million commitment has been made to the Numinbah Escape Project which will deliver Australia's largest zipline tour, mountain biking and bushwalking trails, abseil and buggy tours and guided bush experiences as well a 34-site tourist park, 10 glamping tents, amenities and a permanent cafe.
The Crisafulli Government has also made a $4 million contribution towards the first stage of the Palm Valley Gold Coast project, which is backed by retired surfing world champion Mick Fanning.
The project would deliver the Gold Coast's first ever surf park and include a wave pool, a high-performance surf academy, an upgraded 18-hole golf course, while future stages of this project would involve villas, hotel apartments and commercial buildings to build a comprehensive resort experience.
This investment in the future of tourism on the Gold Coast is part of the Crisafulli Government's $80 million Tourism Icon Investment Fund which supports tourism growth after a decade of decline under Labor.
For all Tourism Icon Investment projects, the funding contributed to the Crisafulli Government is at a minimum matched by the proponents.
Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the Crisafulli Government was investing in tourism projects that would draw visitors from near and far to the region.
"We are delivering on our long-term tourism vision, Destination 2045, by backing bold, world-class attractions that cement Queensland as the Home of the Holiday," Minister Powell said. "These projects will attract more visitors to Queensland and strengthen the Gold Coast as a must-visit destination. "We are proud to support these new tourism attractions alongside proponents who are, at a minimum, matching our investment. "This partnership approach ensures we deliver bigger, better, high-quality tourism experiences that drive jobs and growth across Queensland."
Member for Mudgeeraba Ros Bates said the investment from the Crisafulli Government to support the delivery of Numinbah Escape was a huge win for the local community and a vote of confidence in the future of tourism in the Gold Coast hinterland.
"Numinbah Valley is one of the Gold Coast's hidden gems, and this project will showcase its natural beauty to visitors while preserving what makes it so special," Ms Bates said.
"This project will create local jobs and support small businesses, ensuring the economic benefits are felt right across our hinterland communities."
Member for Bonney Sam O'Connor said the Palm Valley project would strengthen the Gold Coast's reputation as Australia's surfing capital.
"Bringing a world-class wave pool to Parkwood means Gold Coasters and visitors alike will be able to enjoy consistent, high-quality surf conditions all year-round," Mr O'Connor said.
"The Crisafulli Government is proud to back transformational projects like this because they enhance our lifestyle and attract visitors to our city from across the country and the world."
Project developer David Taylor said the Numinbah Escape project would establish a world-class nature-based adventure destination, featuring Australia's largest zipline tour and a range of outdoor activities like mountain biking, bushwalking, and abseiling.
"This funding will help us to create a unique experience that showcases the natural beauty of the Gold Coast hinterland while boosting tourism and creating jobs," Mr Taylor said.
"We are thankful to the Queensland Government for their support, which will help us put Numinbah Valley on the map as a premier adventure destination."
Parkwood Village Managing Director Luke Altschwager said the Palm Valley Gold Coast project would transform Parkwood Golf Club into a premier resort destination, featuring an Endless Surf ES48 wave pool, hospitality, entertainment, event facilities, and upgraded golf facilities.
"We thank the Queensland Government for this funding, which will allow us to deliver a unique blend of surf, sport, and hospitality, attracting visitors from across Queensland and beyond," Mr Altschwager said.
"The project will create jobs, support local businesses, and enhance the Gold Coast's reputation as a world-class tourism destination."
Three-time world surfing champion Mick Fanning said the funding showed the Queensland Government backed his vision for surf and the Gold Coast.
"Surf is at the heart of Palm Valley, with golf, hospitality and events built around it," Mr Fanning said.
"It is going to be something the whole community can be proud of."
Experience Gold Coast's Head of Visitor Economy and Corporate Relations Rachel Hancock welcomed the funding and said the investment would further strengthen the Gold Coast's world-class tourism offering.
"Our tourism industry is leading the way in creating bold and innovative visitor experiences and the funding from the Queensland Government's Tourism Icons Investment Fund is crucial in supporting the development of these new attractions," Ms Hancock said.
"We know that tourism is an ever-evolving industry and that forward-thinking investment like this is a key driver of innovation and helps attract more visitors to our city.
"It's an exciting road ahead for the Gold Coast, with a pipeline of nature-based tourism experiences coming to market along with refinements to existing tourism product all combining to elevate our city's appeal for both locals and visitors."
