Queensland Bolsters Safety Frontline with New Recruits

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed 16 new Protective Service Officers (PSOs) following their recent graduation at the QPS Academy.

The graduation follows an intensive seven-week, full-time training program designed to equip them with the necessary skills required to meet the demands of their roles.

These new officers will play a vital role in safeguarding Queenslanders by strengthening security at key government sites such as state government buildings, courthouses, schools, and public transport infrastructure, while collaborating closely with Queensland Police Service officers.

Assistant Commissioner Charysse Pond congratulated the graduating cohort of PSOs and highlighted the importance of the pivotal role they are stepping into.

"Each new recruit has an important role to play in protecting Queensland's people and places, while making a meaningful difference in their communities" Assistant Commissioner Pond said.

Protective Services Officer Chia-Ying Shen

PSO Chia-Ying Shen says the journey to a career with Protective Services Group has been deeply meaningful. The support PSO Shen received from the community during a challenging time in her life inspired her to join PSG, driven by a desire to give back, protect the public, and support others in vulnerable situations.

"There's no more meaningful path than serving the community, protecting the public, and standing up for those who need it most," PSO Shen said.

Protective Services Officer Kiera Webb

For fellow PSO Kiera Webb, joining PSG was the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience while pursuing her long-term career goal of working in forensic science.

"Every day brings something new to learn, and it reinforces that I'm on the right path towards a meaningful and fulfilling career," PSO Webb said.

The recruits credit the academy's supportive and inspiring environment for their growth.

"The training staff have been outstanding, professional, supportive, and genuinely passionate about what they teach," PSO Webb said.

Together, these recruits represent the diversity, resilience, and dedication that strengthen the Protective Services Group.
