Queensland gives green light to NZ green flights

Green flights from New Zealand (NZ) will resume tonight as Queensland Health confirms current travel restrictions will not extend beyond 6pm 20 March 2021.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said those who were in mandatory quarantine due to the restrictions around the NZ flights may exit quarantine tomorrow (12.01pm, 21 March 2021), if they have returned a negative test result.

The news comes as Queensland reports four new COVID-19 cases, all overseas acquired and detected in hotel quarantine. None were in connection to Papua New Guinea.

"This is wonderful news and certainly a best-case scenario for us and for New Zealand," Dr Young said.

"At the time, AHPPC discussed the need to act due to the further community transmission in New Zealand.

"It was our responsibility to act cautiously. We did the right thing, and now we can look to moving forward."

New Zealand's status as a 'safe travel country' with Queensland will be reinstated.
