The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a key election commitment in Ipswich, investing $4 million into the Ipswich City Council's Detailed Business Case for a new crossing of the Bremer River.

Ipswich City Council has completed the Preliminary and Strategic Business Cases, with the Crisafulli Governments investment to secure the critical next step toward delivering a second river crossing by finalising the Detailed Business Case.

It's just one of the ways the Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future and a better lifestyle through a stronger economy, after a decade of decline under Labor.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was delivering on a key election commitment for the people of Ipswich.

"The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering its election promise, and this funding allows the project to move into the next phase which is the Detailed Business Case," Minister Mickelberg said.

"Supporting Ipswich City Council's planning work for a second bridge over the Bremer River in central Ipswich demonstrates our commitment to delivering what we said we would during the election.

"After a decade of decline under Labor, we are delivering a fresh start for Queensland by working with local governments to plan the building projects communities need for a better lifestyle and stronger economy.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said a second inner city river crossing had been on the Ipswich community's wish list for more than a decade.

"We welcome the Queensland Government's commitment of $4 million to deliver a detailed business case, and today's announcement marking the commencement of this important project," Mayor Harding said.

"The second crossing will play a critical role in improving flood immunity and strengthening the resilience of our transport network.

"It will help unlock the full potential of our CBD by diverting unnecessary through-traffic and easing congestion on the existing David Trumpy Bridge."

The Crisafulli Government's investment is part of the State's Safer Roads, Better Transport initiative.
