- Crisafulli Government to review sunset clause changes to the Land Sales Act 1984.
- Buyers, developers, peak property industry and legal stakeholder bodies invited to participate from 1 September.
- Sunset clause review to examine effectiveness of Labor's laws.
The Crisafulli Government is inviting buyers and property sellers to participate in an in-depth review of the land sale sunset clause amendments.
The Land Sales Act 1984 amendments started in November 2023 and restricted the use of sunset clauses by sellers to terminate 'off-the-plan' contracts for the sale of land.
The changes mean sellers can only rely on a sunset clause to terminate an 'off-the-plan' contract for land with the written consent of the buyer or a Supreme Court order.
The review will focus on the views of community and stakeholders on the effectiveness of the amendments.
The consultation process, which will include buyers, property developers, industry, and legal stakeholder bodies, is a key aspect of the review.
From today, Queenslanders are invited to voice their views and experiences through a public survey, while key stakeholders can make detailed submissions.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity Deb Frecklington said the Crisafulli Government was committed to evaluating the effectiveness of the 2023 reforms.
"This review will hear firsthand if the reforms are working effectively for buyers, as well as the property development industry," the Attorney-General said.
"We're encouraging buyers to have their say with the public survey and are asking a broad range of stakeholders to provide feedback through submissions."
The Government has released two online forms – a survey for buyers and a survey for property sellers – to assist the review.
Both surveys are available on the Office of Fair Trading's website here .
The consultation process will close on Friday, 10 October 2025.
