On behalf of our now more than 40,000 landlords and concerned 50's plus citizens in our SAVE THE LANDLORDS group, we are totally surprised that the media has not seen through the Palaszczuk political move. There is an election due in 6 months time and she and Labor were lagging behind in the polls and they were ready to be bombarded with many key questions so the virus just arrived in time for her to:-
1. Quickly shut down Parliament under the guise of the virus thus allowing her to avoid answering the many unanswered questions that the opposition had for her
2. She then set out a proposal for new tenancy laws on or about April 13 and announced recalling Parliament for April 22ndto have the proposals made law .The proposed changes ,as attached, are absolutely
destructive to say the least.13 of SEQld's top real estate agencies have said that since these proposed laws were announced ,3 (three) things have happened
A) they have been inundated with investors/landlords scrambling to sell their rental properties
B) the interest from potential investors wanting to buy rental properties has all but disappeared. Many of these were retirees who had bailed out of their shares and super funds.
C) young and first home buyers had flooded the market sniffing cheap buys
3. Palaszczuk first of all bought the public servants/Government employees vote by giving them all a $1250 one off payment without a solid reason late last year
4. Now knowing that the 660,000 Queensland landlords/investors are not the demographic that vote Labor, Palaszczuk decided to buy votes from tenants by getting these laws through Parliament in 3 days' time. One
only needs to read the changes to see it is a vote buying exercise
5. Even more scary is that the laws are not for just during the virus but are to permanently stay in place and we are positive will never be repealed after the virus
6. The Deputy Premier Jackie Trad states she knew nothing of the proposals yet we have very very reliable inside information that says this move has been widely discussed by all cabinet ministers and all agreed it was a
good proposal to gain votes for the Government in an election year.
7. In the no so long term tenants will be worse off as there will be( based on the current numbers of landlords selling up and many young home buyers buying the cheaper rental houses to live in) up to 35% less rental
properties which will then force up rents.
WE ARE ALREADY AWARE THAT THE OPPOSITION ARE ASLEEP ON THEIR FEET ON THIS ISSUE AND UNLESS THE MEDIA MAKES A CONCERTED MOVE TO MAKE A MAJOR ISSUE OF THIS IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS THE ONLY WINNER IN THE
