Queensland Rugby Union partner with Breast Cancer Network Australia for Ladies Round double-header

For the second year running, the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) is proud to partner with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) as part of Ladies Round on Saturday 2 March at Suncorp Stadium.

Rugby fans will be treated to a 'pink' themed double-header, kicking off with the St.George Queensland Women's XV hosting RugbyWA women, before the St.George Queensland Reds take on the Crusaders in their first home game of 2019.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for BCNA, which supports Australian women and men affected by breast cancer.

In recognition of this, the Reds will have the option to wear pink shoe laces, while the Queensland Women's XV team will wear pink socks.

BCNA CEO Kirsten Pilatti said: "Partnerships like this are really important – not only do they raise vital funds to support our work, but they remind those in the community who are going through a breast cancer diagnosis that they are not alone, and that there is support available."

QRU CEO David Hanham said: "We are proud to once again partner with Breast Cancer Network Australia. As a sporting organisation we are one big family and pleased to help an important charity that supports all Australians affected by breast cancer."

Every day this year, 53 people will find out they have breast cancer. Breast cancer doesn't just affect the individual diagnosed, it has a ripple effect on family members, friends, team mates and the whole community.

Sporting clubs form the heart and soul of communities across Australia and are not immune to this ripple effect a breast cancer diagnosis brings.

The QRU and BCNA want to show fans and those in the community who have been personally affected by breast cancer that they are not alone – we are behind you and there is support available.

In 2019, Rugby clubs can follow the lead of the QRU in helping make a difference to families affected by breast cancer.

Both the QRU and BCNA are calling on clubs across Queensland to hold their own Pink Sports Day in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia and Australians affected by breast cancer.

BCNA supports all Australians who have been affected by breast cancer. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed call the Helpline on 1800 500 258 or go to www.bcna.org.au
