Queensland Lands a Knockout: Big-Time Boxing to Hit Cairns

  • Far North Queensland to host major regional boxing event backed by the Crisafulli Government.
  • Top-tier local talent including Liam Paro and Liam Wilson set to feature.
  • Event set to drive tourism and provide a platform for emerging talent.

The Crisafulli Government has thrown its support behind a major event bringing world-class boxing to Far North Queensland.

The event will be one of the biggest fight nights to have ever been staged in regional Australia and is set take place on Wednesday, June 25 at the Cairns Convention Centre.

The No Limit Boxing: Cairns event will be headlined by Queensland's own former world champion Liam Paro and two-time world title challenger Liam Wilson. The action-packed event will also feature Olympian Callum Peters and rising Far North star Kirra Ruston.

The Crisafulli Government is backing regional Queensland to secure more major sporting events in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the events to boost tourism spend and provide a platform for the State's emerging sporting talent.

Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the Crisafulli Government is proud to support events that inspire and elevate regional communities.

"It's fantastic to see an elite sporting outfit like No Limit Boxing bring such a high-profile event to Far North Queensland," Minister Mander said.

"This is about more than just entertainment, it's about economic opportunity, tourism, and creating positive pathways for young people in our regions.

"Events like this inspire kids in places like Cairns and Mackay to dream big, work hard, and believe that they too can reach the top.

"As we head toward Brisbane 2032, our goal is to increase participation, grow regional investment, and leave a legacy of opportunity. This event is a great example of that vision in action."

No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose said the event represents a major sporting moment for Cairns and the Far North.

"This is the biggest fight card we've ever brought this far north and it's going to be an unforgettable night for Queensland boxing," Mr Rose said.

"We've had the privilege of taking boxing all across the country, but this one is really special.

"To have Liam Paro, a former world champion from Mackay, and Liam Wilson, who's been on the world stage, fighting at home together in front of a packed Cairns crowd is something we've been working toward for a long time.

"We're bringing a truly world-class event to Cairns, and we're just getting started. If you love live sport, you need to be there."

Former world champion Liam Paro, who was born and raised in Mackay and spent years fighting abroad said his will be a true homecoming.

"I've been chasing fights all over the world, USA, Puerto Rico, the UK, but nothing beats fighting at home in Queensland," Mr Paro said.

"I never got the chance to defend my world title back here, but now I've got the opportunity to put on a show in front of my people, and I plan to deliver something special."

World title challenger Liam Wilson, who has twice fought for world titles overseas, said he was excited to be part of such a historic night.

"It means a lot to be fighting back in Queensland, especially on a card like this," Wilson said.

"I've gone to war with some of the best fighters on the planet, and I've learned from every round. This is my chance to show how far I've come and that I'm still one of the top contenders in the world.

"The support from the fans in Queensland has always pushed me forward. To have a crowd like this behind me, in Cairns, on a card this stacked, I'm more motivated than ever to make a statement and get myself back into world title contention."
