A remarkable early morning emergency saw Queensland police officer Senior Constable Christine Fox help deliver a baby girl on the side of the Bruce Highway at Tanawha last week, Queensland Police say.
This morning Senior Constable Fox was reunited with newborn baby Ayla as well as the two Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics who attended the scene to assist and treat brave mum Aimee.
Just after 1am on Monday, November 5 Senior Constable Fox was supervising road works being carried out on the Bruce Highway when she noticed a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road.
As she went over to investigate she discovered Luke, Aimee’s husband, looking visibly concerned and distressed.
"At first I was worried someone had been badly hurt, then I saw Aimee standing next to the car in labor and the baby was already crowning," Senior Constable Fox said.
"I grabbed a towel from the car and let the Triple 0 operator guide us through the delivery, Luke caught her and we quickly wrapped her up," she said.
"Little Ayla was amazing, she instinctively knew what to do and started nuzzling her mum.
"She was just laying there winking and blinking at all the emergency lights."
A mum herself, Senior Constable Fox continued to monitor the tiny baby and Aimee following the birth at 1.20am until paramedics Jen Clifford and Laura Henschell arrived.
Luke and Aimee today attended Nambour Police Station along with baby Ayla and their 1-year-old son Bhodi where they met with the QPS officer for the first time since Ayla made her hurried entrance into to the world – and Christine was more than happy to get her fair share of baby cuddles.
"We were so thankful to have her there, she and the paramedics did such an amazing job," Luke said.
