Lake Broadwater's much-loved caretakers, Tim and Megan Walker, will continue in their caretaker role after being reappointed the position embraced with passion since 2023.
Alongside their sons, Nate and Colt, the Walker family has played a key role in enhancing the visitor experience at the popular camping destination, with their dedication reflected in both the presentation of the park and the warm welcome extended to visitors and locals alike.
Council spokesperson for Tourism and Recreational Spaces Councillor Kaye Maguire said the Walker family have become an important part of the Lake Broadwater experience, combining care and presentation of the campground with a warm and welcoming presence for visitors and the wider community.
"In their first year as caretakers, visitor numbers to Lake Broadwater increased by more than 400 per cent with their role also expanding to the activation of the Lake Broadwater Hall," Cr Maguire said.
"Lake Broadwater has seen significant improvements and projects including the addition of six metal sculptures that have become a feature of the park. They bring so much love to weddings, birthdays, and milestone celebrations at the Lake.
"Council is thrilled to have Tim, Megan, and their family successfully taking on the caretaker role for another term, and we look forward to continuing to work alongside them to support the ongoing success of Lake Broadwater.
"Tim and Megan also coordinate a range of wonderful community events, with upcoming events such as Bloom & Breathe Festival, Get Your Freak On, and Christmas Carols, with this year's carols set to feature a groovy twist."
Lake Broadwater caretaker Megan Walker said the popular recreation area had become much more than a workplace for their family since taking on the role in 2023.
"For our family the lake has been such an incredible place to work, play, and raise our family," Mrs Walker said.
"The boys have grown up surrounded by nature, wildlife, water sports, camping, and the awesome visitors that come to the grounds. This is something we could have never imagined for our family.
"We've experienced bushfires, floods, changing water levels, and much more, however throughout it all the Lake has given and will continue to give us memories we will forever be grateful for.
"After four years, we don't just feel like the caretakers, we feel apart of this wonderful place, and our campers, and visitors are becoming apart of our family too - we are incredibly proud to continue our role at Lake Broadwater."
