The Australian General Practice Research Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the RACGP, is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2025 Research Grants and Awards.
This year's successful projects will see GPs, registrars, students and researchers across Australia tackling some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare, from scaling digital maternity care in remote communities to improving COPD diagnosis in rural general practice, strengthening workforce resilience, and supporting better diabetes care.
In 2025 the Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 to 14 GP led research projects nationwide, funding 78 researchers to improve care in areas spanning chronic disease, women's health and rural GP wellbeing.
Dr Michael Wright, RACGP President, said these grants show the real difference that GP led research can make.
"As a GP and researcher myself, I know how many research ideas start in the consulting room when we are with patients," Dr Wright said.
"What excites me about these grants is that they give GPs and researchers the opportunity to explore those ideas further, test them, and turn them into solutions which can benefit communities right across Australia.
"I want to congratulate every recipient of a 2025 Foundation Research Grant or Award. Your work will help shape the future of community health care. . None of this would be possible without the generosity of our members, the public and our partners who make the Foundation possible.
"I also want to acknowledge all those who submitted an application. It shows the strength of innovation and ideas we have as a community. I see the Foundation continuing to grow and grow so we can keep improving general practice for patients and communities nationwide.
