Listeners and others generously donated nearly $1.5 million during the 37th annual Mix 106.5 Radiothon for Johns Hopkins Children's Center. During the two-day event last week, Mix 106.5 broadcast live from the Children's Center for a total of 26 hours.
"We cannot thank each and every donor enough for their support, as well as Mix 106.5, our volunteers and staff who help make this radiothon possible each year," says Brenda Banwell, M.D., co-director and pediatrician-in-chief of the Children's Center. "Not only is this support incredibly impactful for the care our physicians and clinical teams provide for each and every one of our patients, it also helps our research teams continue the groundbreaking clinical trials to improve the lives of pediatric patients everywhere."
Along with supporting patient care and research, funds raised during radiothon in previous years have also helped purchase lifesaving medical equipment, develop innovative tools and programs, and bring toys, books, games, art supplies and more to patients.
"The Children's Center sees thousands of patients each year for a variety of reasons - from routine checkups to lifesaving procedures," says David Hackam, M.D., Ph.D., co-director and pediatric surgeon-in-chief of Johns Hopkins Children's Center. "Every donation allows us to continue delivering world-class care to our pediatric patients, while also bringing a sense of healing and normalcy to our patients and their families when they need it the most."
The presenting sponsor at this year's radiothon was MidPoint Technology Group LLC. This latest amount brings the grand total of funds raised during the annual radiothon to more than $32 million since the event began in 1989.
While this year's radiothon has ended, donations can still be made by visiting the radiothon website.
