Rain Moves East as Strong Front Approaches

And looking at the national map, we can see the main feature down here approaching south-west WA early tomorrow morning is this big, strong, cold front that's going to sweep across the Bight during the course of tomorrow. Rain extending across the south-eastern states ahead of that system. And that'll be the main feature on Saturday as well.

Further north, a high pressure system keeps things really dry and settled and quite warm through northern New South Wales, particularly in the southern half of Queensland, with temperatures 4 to 8 degrees above the September average there.

Let's take a look there to start with now in Queensland and you can see those temperatures reaching the mid to high 30s through western Queensland particularly and then into the south-east as well. Temperatures reaching the low 30s, Brisbane a sunny top of 32 °C. And that's potentially in the middle of a run of four days of 30 or more for Brisbane, which is very rare for this early in September and dry conditions pretty much statewide. You can see temperatures in the high teens, high 20s, sorry, to low 30s, right up the coast of eastern Queensland and no wet weather really on the forecast at all right across Queensland.

For New South Wales and the ACT, that warm weather continues through the north. So temperatures reaching the high 20s there, then getting milder as you head further south. Sydney a sunny top of 22 °C. Canberra partly cloudy with the top of 18 °C and some showers and patchy rain extending across the south-west and into the Riverina later in the day on Friday.

For Victoria, it'll be a windy day and quite mild, with temperatures in the high teens typically and reaching the low 20s up around Mildura and the Mallee. You'll see wet weather moving in from the into the western districts in the afternoon and then reaching central parts, including Melbourne, in the evening. So Melbourne, a windy top of 18 °C, a dry day and then some rain in the evening, potentially around for the footy there.

For Tasmania, a few showers across the west coast throughout the day and then again a mild and breezy day with temperatures generally 14 to 15 °C in the north and slightly warmer 15 to up to 17 °C in the east. Cloudy for Hobart with the top of 15 °C and then some wet weather spreading further across the north later in the day.

For South Australia, those showers and patchy rain and some thunderstorms about the West Coast early and then reaching Adelaide, perhaps around late morning, with the top of 21 °C there. So cooler in the south and then gradually getting milder as you head up towards Adelaide and surrounds, and then quite hot up in the north, now the north-east pastoral district towns reaching 34 to 35 °C, as you can see there. And then this cold front you can see coming to picture towards the end of the day. That'll be the main story on Saturday.

For southern and western Australia there's that cold front again at the start of the day, crossing the South West Land Division in the early morning, so showers overnight and early morning for parts of the west coast particularly and the south coast. A windy day as well for places like Albany and Esperance, so the possibility of some isolated, damaging wind gusts there as that cold front sweeps across during the day and then showers generally easing later in the day. So Perth a top of 20 °C. Those showers will fall overnight and early morning, and then it'll be a dry afternoon with a top of 20 °C there. And then again, temperatures heating up quickly as you head further north.

And lastly in the Northern Territory. Plenty of sunshine on the forecast again with warm to hot temperatures. A few signs of the build-up starting to appear, with a couple of little showers around in the early morning for the north-west Top End, including for Darwin. So possibly a morning shower for Darwin and then a mostly sunny top of 33 °C.
