It's been a fruitful wet season across northern and central Australia, and that has continued this weekend with rain and storms spreading from the Top End down to Uluru, and across tropical Queensland on Saturday.
Then today spreading all the way down to the southern coastline. We have mainly clear skies over the east this weekend, but flooding remains extensive after recent rains for Queensland, and parts of northern New South Wales, with settled conditions further south.
A band of rain will be draped across the country on Monday, from the Kimberly to northern Tasmania. This means rain for most of Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory, with heavy falls and storms over the outback, but lesser amounts of rainfall for southern populated and agricultural regions. Fine and warm in Western Australia, and mostly dry between Canberra and Cairns, just a few light showers for eastern Queensland.
Tuesday is similar with more heavy rain possible over the interior and lesser rainfall extending through eastern Victoria, southern New South Wales, and ACT. By and large, the east and west coasts will be dry, while showers and storms in the tropics thin out.
Wednesday is probably the driest day of the week for mainland Australia. Coastal New South Wales and the Northern Territory will see some rain, but none of these totals are expected to be very high, and other states are mainly dry. Very warm in the west.
As we approach the end of the week it will pay to keep an eye on the coral sea, with the potential for a tropical low or a tropical cyclone to close in on the Queensland coast. It's too early to put details on this weather system, but it's one to keep tabs on. Away from that, the weather is quite settled, although northern New South Wales and the tropics could see some decent rain.
Friday will be a mostly settled, dry and mild finish to the week with showers about the fringes of the country. The main exception to this will be whatever happens in the far north of Queensland with this tropical weather system.
That's all for this week, we'll see you again next time.
