And let's start by looking at the middle of the country, where we'll see rain and thunderstorms across much of South Australia tomorrow, and extending into neighbouring states and territories as well.
So eastern WA to start with, through the southern parts of the Northern Territory and then into western parts of the eastern states later in the day, as this cold front starts to move further east. A different story on the east coast, where the weather will generally be fine and really pleasant for much of the population.
Quite warm over Victoria and Tasmania, with a ridge of high pressure in play here.
Another ridge of high pressure as well through the west, with a couple of showers around for Perth but generally settled conditions out there.
Let's go around the grounds now, starting with Queensland where, as I said, it's going to be a really pleasant day for Brisbane and most of the east coast. Mild temperatures, 28 degrees in Brisbane, 30 degrees in Cairns, mostly dry, just a couple of showers and the odd thunderstorm around Rockhampton, Bundaberg, the Wide Bay. Plenty of showers and thunderstorms further west about the Channel Country and adjacent parts of western Queensland, with temperatures really heating up, reaching a top of 40 degrees in Birdsville.
Heading down to New South Wales and the ACT, again really pleasant conditions, plenty of sunshine across the board for eastern New South Wales, through the ranges and into the central west as well. 23 degrees the top for Sydney and for Canberra as well. Northeasterly sea breezes along the coast, a really lovely day, and then some showers and patchy rain and a few thunderstorms reaching far western New South Wales late in the day on Friday.
In Victoria, really warm and quite breezy, so a top of 26 degrees for Melbourne. Northerly winds are real hay fever day for those who suffer from that at this time of year, unfortunately. Plenty of sunshine across central and eastern Victoria to start with on Friday, and then we'll see some rain and cloud developing and increasing from the west. So reaching the western districts in the afternoon and then extending through to central districts, maybe including Melbourne in the late evening on Friday.
Similar story for Tasmania. Really warm, particularly through southern Tasmania, where Hobart's going for a top of 25 degrees and some parts of the south could get up into the high 20s tomorrow. Again, northerly breezes, so pretty breezy across Tasmania tomorrow. And then again high cloud and a little bit of rain reaching the west late in the day on Friday.
We'll see plenty more of that rain and thunderstorm activity through South Australia tomorrow. As you can see, rain extending across the vast majority of the state during the course of Friday. Totals of 15 to 20 mm likely for parts of the Eyre and Yorke Peninsula, through Adelaide, in the hills and down through the south-east as well. The rainfall totals drop off in the eastern districts as you get into the rain shadow of the Mount Lofty and Flinders Ranges there. Adelaide, a top of 23 degrees with showers on and off through the day, possibly a thunderstorm as well in the afternoon and evening, again with rainfall totals 15 to 20 mm. Some spots in the hills likely to see 25 or even 30 mm of rain. If there's a couple of thunderstorms during the course of Friday, thunderstorms could be severe as well through parts including Whyalla, Port Augusta, through these central and western areas, the northern agricultural districts up into the pastorals as well. So severe thunderstorms through large parts of South Australia possible on Friday.
In the west, it's quite cool at the moment. A few showers around the west coast, the south coast, a little bit of rain clearing the far south-east early in the day on Friday and then drier to follow. Quite cool as I said, so daytime temperatures about 4 to 7 degrees below the October average. Perth going for a top of 19 degrees with a shower or two through the day, but generally settled conditions, and those showers won't really penetrate far inland past the west coast and past the exposed parts of the south coast as well. And then as you head further north, of course, temperatures heat up into the high 20s and low 30s through the Pilbara.
Now looking at the Northern Territory to finish. And we'll see plenty of those showers and thunderstorms through southern NT, up through central parts as well, and through the western Top End as well. Severe thunderstorms are possible around Alice Springs, so damaging winds possible there in storms. So keep an eye out for that. And dry conditions through the eastern Top End, including for Darwin, will be a mostly sunny top of 33 degrees.
That's all we've got for you for now.
