Raptor Squad Probes Arson at Secret Lab Crime Scene

Raptor Squad officers are investigating a fire that was allegedly deliberately lit at a crime scene in Sydney's west this morning.

About 7.35am on Monday (4 March 2024), officers attached to State Crime Command's Raptor Squad executed a number of Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks at two addresses in Lansvale and one at Villawood.

At the Lansvale address, police located and seized 2.6kg of heroin, 1kg of cannabis, and nearly $40,000 in cash. The items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

Two men – aged 31 and 27 – were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station where they were charged with supply prohibited drug >indictable &

Both were granted conditional bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 20 March 2024.

Following further inquiries, about 11.35pm the same day, officers executed a number of crime scene warrants at an industrial complex in Revesby.

In one unit, an alleged inactive clandestine lab was found – identified by the methylamphetamine and precursors located inside – and a crime scene was declared.

Specialist police, including offices from the Drug & Firearms Squad, were called for assistance dismantling the lab and to conduct a forensic examination.

A crime scene guard was put in place overnight on both Monday and Tuesday nights, as the dismantling process was set to continue.

About 5.30am today (Wednesday 6 March 2024), officers guarding the scene notified a fire on the roof of the complex and a person attempting to access the crime scene through the roof.

The police on guard challenged the man, who is alleged to have fled the scene.

NSW Fire & Rescue attended to extinguish the blaze and claimed to have seen at least one other man on the roof of the complex, who is also alleged to have fled.

Detectives are treating the fire as suspicious and believe it was deliberately lit; however, no evidence was impacted and there was only minimal damage done to the roof of the crime scene.

A secondary crime scene has since been established in the property adjacent to the industrial complex, where the alleged arsonists are believed to have accessed the roof.

Investigations into this criminal network and the alleged arsonists continue.
