Skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX and scooter riders are being invited to compete in the Rave On Wheels skate competition and family fun day at the Ravenswood Skate Park on Friday, April 29.

Rave On Wheels is being coordinated by the City of Launceston, in collaboration with Anglicare Tasmania, the Australian Government's Community Children's Initiative, the YMCA and Skate Park Leagues.

All competitors on the day will go in the draw to win a range of fun prizes, including two handcrafted skateboards from Northern Tasmanian skateboard manufacturer Black Rainbow Boards.

Along with kids activities, community information stands and a free barbecue coordinated by Launceston City Mission, Rave On Wheels promises to showcase the talents of Northern Tasmania's skating community.

Competitors can register online at skateparkleagues.com.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said Rave On Wheels would be a fun and family-friendly community event.

"The skate events we've helped to coordinate both here in Ravenswood and at Royal Park have proven extremely popular in the past, and I expect we'll have a large line-up of competitors at this event," Mayor van Zetten said.

"Even if you don't skate, I'd still encourage people to come along because we have some really spectacular skaters and BMX riders in Northern Tasmania and they are well worth seeing.

"Best of all, two lucky competitors will each go home with a hand-crafted skateboard, made right here in Launceston by Alistair Morgan from Black Rainbow Boards — they are really unique prizes which we hope will add to the competition on the day."
