The MA2K Snapshot was established in 2025 with a view to improving the availability of information on Māori access to capital and providing a consistent basis for monitoring change over time. It brings together information on access to finance, organisational settings, workforce capability and representation, and lending products and services targeted to Māori customers and businesses.
The publication combines data from Statistics New Zealand's Business Operations Survey (BOS) with information provided voluntarily by participating banks. Participating banks in 2026 were ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Heartland, KiwiBank, Rabobank, TSB and Westpac. Their participation helps build a stronger evidence base and supports ongoing monitoring of Māori access to capital over time.
The Snapshot does not assess, rank, or compare the performance of individual banks. Bank-level information is anonymised and supplied voluntarily on a best-efforts basis, and participating banks may use different data collection methods and reporting approaches.
The Māori Access to Capital Snapshot 2026 is available on the RBNZ website.
