Readout: Minister Ng meets with India's Minister of External Affairs

From: Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, met with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India, in Ottawa this week.

As the world's fastest-growing major economy, India offers tremendous opportunities for Canadian business owners and entrepreneurs. In 2018, the two-way trade of goods between Canada and India totalled more than $9.4 billion.

This meeting was an opportunity to discuss continued collaboration for both countries, regional issues, and strengthening the rules-based international order.

Minister Ng and Minister Jaishankar explored opportunities to deepen the positive trading relationship between Canada and India, including in key areas such as grains and pulses, climate action and nuclear energy.

The ministers addressed ways to strengthen the support for small and medium-sized businesses as they scale up and export into new markets.

Both ministers look forward to building on the long history of partnership between the two countries to create an even brighter future.
