Readout: Minister Ng speaks with United Kingdom's Secretary of State for International Trade 22 September

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, spoke with Liz Truss, Secretary of State for International Trade for the United Kingdom (U.K.) to discuss Canada and the U.K.'s shared priorities ahead of the G20 Trade Ministers Meeting tomorrow.

Minister Ng and Secretary Truss expressed their desire to work together on a coordinated approach to open, rules-based trade and investment to ensure businesses from both countries survive and thrive - particularly by avoiding and reducing trade restrictions. Minister Ng underscored the importance of G20 members taking concrete action now to ensure that economic recovery is both successful and sustainable for residents of both countries.

Minister Ng and Secretary Truss discussed ongoing efforts to build a strong and stable path forward to strengthen the Canada-U.K. trading relationship to ensure continuity and new opportunities for both countries.

Following up on their recent conversation last month, Secretary Truss thanked Canada for welcoming the U.K.'s interest in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Minister Ng reiterated Canada's support for the expansion of the agreement to include new members that are able to meet its ambitious and high-standard commitments.
