Bass Coast Shire Council is continuing to improve its local road network, with renewal works along Baillieu Street East in Wonthaggi scheduled to start this month.
The works will occur between the McKenzie Street intersection and McBride Avenue. This $1.5 millionproject is fully funded by the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which aims to assist community led recovery from COVID-19 by supporting local jobs, firms and procurement.
This project is expected to be completed by December.
The aim of this project is to ensure that Bass Coast's urban road network is safe and sustainable for the community and maintained into the future.
This project will include road pavement widening, drainage works, formalised car parking as well as kerb and channel and footpath construction.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that this project will help improve access to Wonthaggi's centre, and is being completed as part of the Wonthaggi: Unlocked initiative.
"This important project will see the provision of formalised on street car parks around Council's Civic Centre and the former Wonthaggi Secondary College Campus site, providing more parking options for people, within easy walking distance to the centre of town," Cr Tessari said.
While this work is taking place, there will be some access restrictions, such as road closures and detours put in place as required. Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will also be implemented onsite during the works.
Local and emergency access will be provided at all times.
The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to road users, residents and businesses during these works and Council appreciates your patience during these times.
