Northern Territory Police have arrested a 55-year-old woman for drink driving twice in one month.
Police members from the Road Safety Command were conducting an alcohol and drug testing station on the Stuart Highway in Alice Springs around 9:00pm on 2 May 2019 when they stopped a Toyota Rav 4 being driven by the 55-Year-old woman. The driver returned a positive drug test result for amphetamine and methamphetamine and was later released with a notice to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court.
Police members of the Road Safety Command were again conducting an alcohol and drug testing station on the Stuart Highway in Alice Springs around 7:00pm on 30 May 2019. Police stopped the same vehicle which was being driven by the same woman. The driver was again submitted to a drug test which returned a positive result for amphetamine and methamphetamine. She was arrested and later bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court.
Sergeant Conan Robertson of Southern Traffic Operations said, "Police are obviously disappointed that someone would continue to place others at risk by driving with a prohibited drug in their body twice in the same month. Of particular concern was the fact that the driver had two children, aged 5 and 6, in the car on the second occasion.
"The message from police is simple; do not drive with alcohol or drugs in your system. In addition to placing the driver at risk, this selfish behaviour also endangers other road users. Police will continue to hold such drivers accountable."
