Every year, the Stonnington community nominate individuals and groups who have helped make Stonnington a better place to live, work and play.
The 2019 Citizen of the Year Awards recognise the exceptional contribution of residents and volunteers to our community.
To City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos, the annual awards are an opportunity to and acknowledge and thank our community leaders for their contribution.
"These awards are an excellent way to celebrate the residents and volunteers who make a difference and contribute so much to our community," said Cr Stefanopoulos.
"This year's winners demonstrate outstanding achievements and lead by example to trigger positive change and create a more connected community.
"As a volunteer myself with numerous organisations, I congratulate recipients and thank them for their commitment and working tirelessly," added Mayor Stefanopoulos.
This year's Citizen of the Year Award categories and winners are:
- Young Citizen of the Year (under 26 years of age as at 31 July) - Lucie Armstrong. Lucie is passionate about our environment and a positive change agent that has led many sustainability initiatives and helped others imagine a more sustainable future.
- Citizen of the Year Arts/Education - Fran Johnson. Fran has given tirelessly to her school and community, creating and driving school community forums and Armadale Primary's sports and play spaces masterplan and was instrumental in refurbishing the outside of the Year 1 classroom.
- Citizen of the Year Community Service - Brendan Corr. Brendan's been a volunteer driving mentor for over seven years, supervising new drivers with exceptional generosity and a true passion to help young people succeed and move ahead in their lives.
- Citizen of the Year Sport - Erin Mullner Erin's unrelenting dedication as the President of Chadstone Lacrosse Club in the past three years has been invaluable. She is a fantastic mentor and role model to other members of her team, especially to juniors.
- Community Group - East Malvern Men's Shed. Stonnington's only men's shed, has been operating for almost three years, from humble beginnings of a meeting at Phoenix Park, to a thriving group of 27 members who meet twice weekly.
