Reconciliation Week flag raising ceremony

Council is inviting the community to a flag raising ceremony on Friday 27 May to commemorate the start of National Reconciliation Week in 2022.

The event will include an Acknowledgement of Country, the flag raising ceremony, speeches by local Indigenous Elders and Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield, afternoon tea and a range of fun activities for children and families.

"This event provides an opportunity to bring Cardinia Shire local residents together in order to build stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-indigenous community members," said Cr Springfield.

With Cr Springfield also adding that "reconciliation is an ongoing journey that reminds us that while generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change, future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more effort."

The event will take place from 1:30pm to 3pm at the Cardinia Shire Council Civic Centre in front at the flags at 20 Siding Avenue Officer.

Everyone is welcome. There will be light refreshments provided by a local Indigenous caterer.
