The Finocchiaro CLP Government is reinforcing the Northern Territory's reputation as a vibrant and unique cultural destination, announcing the largest Darwin Festival ever in the event's 46-year history.

Launching this Thursday, this year's festival showcases a record-breaking 50 venues and seven world premieres, with 734 artists and more than 400 performances taking place throughout Darwin and Palmerston.

From the brand-new Fort Hill Parklands festival space at the Darwin Waterfront to Civic Park's annual transformation into the lively Festival Park, the 18-day program celebrates local, national and international creative talent.

Minister for Major Events and Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby said the Darwin Festival is not only a cultural highlight, but also a powerful economic driver for the Territory.

"This is a standout event on our dry season calendar for both locals and visitors alike, attracting visitors from across the country to experience our culture and creativity," said Ms Boothby.

"Events like this play a key role in our government's commitment to rebuilding the economy and restoring our unique Territory lifestyle - they generate jobs, drive tourism, and inject millions into our economy.

"Last year alone, the festival contributed $33.1 million in total expenditure, with more than 175,000 attendances - 74% of whom were Territorians and 26% visitors from interstate.

"The latest CommSec report shows our economy is moving in the right direction under our government - our events play a key role in that."

Further reinforcing its status as the biggest and best yet, this year's Darwin Festival also features the largest-ever Taste of Darwin program, showcasing the NT's outstanding food and beverage scene across multiple venues.

The festival will be off to a strong start, with Aussie favourite Guy Sebastian headlining the opening night on Friday, and Gabriella Cilmi, The Wanted Gems, Andrew Gurruwiwi Band, and L.A.B. to take the stage across the opening weekend.

The diverse line-up has something for everyone, from sell-out comedy acts, music, visual arts, and cabaret, to dance, circus, and family entertainment - with more than half of this year's artists from the Northern Territory, highlighting strong local talent.

"Our government's first budget delivers $36.5 million for iconic Territory events like Darwin Festival, because we're putting events back at the heart of our unique Territory lifestyle," said Ms Boothby.

Darwin Festival Artistic Director Kate Fell said: "This year's festival truly reflects the incredible spirit of Darwin, from breathtaking waterfront venues and starlit spaces to quirky bars, iconic theatres, vibrant galleries, and even performances on boats and buses.

"The program is just as varied and exciting, offering something for everyone, whether you're drawn to laughter, food, dance, inspiration, or powerful storytelling."
