- Record 52.4% renewables contribution achieved across the end of 2025
- Energy prices drop as renewable energy replaces coal and gas
- Batteries storing energy for use during evening peak
- Cook Government diversifying the economy by becoming a renewable energy powerhouse
The Cook Government's energy transition reached a new milestone in the last quarter of 2025, with record renewables reducing demand for coal and gas and driving down energy prices.
A report released today by the independent Australian Energy Market Operator showed renewables accounted for 52.4% of all electricity generated over three months, a new record.
The result also exceeds the National Energy Market average of 51% for the same period.
The AEMO Quarterly Energy Dynamics Q4 2025 shows that plentiful spring-time renewable energy, backed by storage and gas, can deliver lower cost energy for Western Australians.
Reduced coal (-5.8%) and gas (-16.4%) output over the quarter was replaced by renewables and storage the cheaper alternatives - driving a 32% drop in quarter-on-quarter wholesale energy prices.
The large fleet of batteries a vital part of Western Australia's renewable transition backed by the Cook Government is storing excess renewable power during the day for use at times of high demand.
Comments attributed to Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"This is our energy transition in action. AEMO's independent report shows the progress we have already made supporting new investments in renewable generation and battery storage.
"Backed by gas, this will see the lowest cost energy mix that will drive WA's clean energy future.
"The Cook Government will continue to pursue the sensible and pragmatic policies needed to build on these outstanding results - to deliver affordable and reliable energy for WA households and businesses."
