Redeveloped Park For Wandin North Community

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

Locals and visitors in Wandin North now have improved picnic facilities, more accessible paths and a new toilet block, as part of the recently completed redevelopment of the PJ Mould Community Park.

On Tuesday, 7 October, Chandler Ward Councillor, Gareth Ward, opened the park with community members.

Cr Ward said the redevelopment of the park was the first completed project in the Wandin North Town Centre Masterplan, the result of strong advocacy from the community.

"In 2022, Council began working on the Wandin North Town Centre Masterplan, engaging thoroughly with the community to find out how they would like the town centre improved over the coming decade," he said.

"This project is the first we've completed from the plan. We gathered valuable feedback and positive comments on the concept designs last year, and, as a result, we now have a park that better suits our community."

The redeveloped park has a new public toilet, integrated with historical images provided by Mont De Lancey and community members. A new accessible path, picnic shelter with barbecue and seating, a boardwalk, community event space with lighting and informal garden beds complete the works.

Cr Ward said the space would be a meeting spot for the community for years to come.

"Parks like PJ Mould are places where families and friends meet, play, spend time and make memories. By having a welcoming space like this, countless people will forge connection to their community here," he said.

"I'm really proud of what we've achieved here. A big thank you to the community for your advocacy, feedback and support in helping bring this project to life". PJ Mould was a Shire of Lillydale Councillor, who constructed the early shops in Wandin North and helped to put the town on the map.
