Redfern Region Enforcement Squad investigators have charged six people and seized more than $105,000 cash and more than 17kg of cannabis following an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.
In September last year, officers from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Caprera to investigate the supply of methylamphetamine and cultivation of cannabis across Sydney.
Following extensive investigations, Redfern RES investigators executed 11 search warrants at Bankstown, Bass Hill, Cabramatta West, Canley Vale, Dundas, Guilford, Mount Pritchard, Riverwood, Sefton and Villawood from 10am yesterday (Wednesday 2 June 2021).
Redfern RES officers were assisted throughout the operation by Surry Hills RES, the Public Order and Riot Squad (PORS), Central and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), the Dog Unit and officers from Campsie and Bankstown Police Area Commands.
During the searches, police uncovered three hydroponic cannabis set-ups at homes at Guildford, Mount Pritchard and Dundas.
More than 290 cannabis plants were seized, with an estimated potential street value of $1.015 million.
Detectives also seized 17kg of cannabis, MDMA, cocaine, an electronic stun device and more than $105,000 cash.
During the operation, six people – five men and two women – were arrested and taken to local police stations.
A 26-year-old man was arrested at Gledswood Hills and charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
Two men – aged 27 and 33 – and a 35-year-old woman were arrested at Mount Pritchard and all charged with knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant and found on/entering/leaving drug premises.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at Canley Vale and charged with four counts of supply prohibited drug, cultivate prohibited plant, knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant, possess or use a prohibited weapon with permit, possess prohibited drug and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
A 41-year-old woman was arrested at Dundas and charged with knowingly take part-cultivate commercial quantity prohibited plant.
They were all refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 3 June 2021).
Investigations under Strike Force Caprera are continuing.
