Over the last few months there has been an influx of animals at shelters around the state including here in Shepparton, in particular cats and kittens. The Shepparton Animal Shelter aims to rehouse abandoned or lost animals, connecting them with their forever homes.

Council is aiming to find new homes for these cats and kittens, with all animals being vet checked, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for worms and fleas.

Greater Shepparton City Council's Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou said adopting from the Shepparton Animal Shelter was a rewarding experience for both our community and animals.

"With an increased number of cats and kittens at the Animal Shelter, we are encouraging individuals looking for a new pet to consider adoption," she said.

"Our staff are working hard to find the right home for each animal, and want to ensure every new home is long lasting and the right fit.

"If you need help adopting a pet, please reach out to our staff at the Animal Shelter. Prices for kittens are $100 and prices for cats will be discounted to $50 from Friday 8 April until Friday 22 April. We look forward to connecting these rehomed pets with their forever families."

Residents can visit the Shepparton Animal Shelter on Wanganui Road to meet the animals available for adoption and to make an application.
