2025 has been a time of meaningful connection between the Heritage Council of Western Australia and those working to conserve and revitalise heritage places across state.
The work of the Heritage Council took its members across regional and metropolitan areas in 2025, where they met with private owners, architects, builders and skilled tradespeople leading efforts to bring underutilised heritage buildings and sites back to life.
It has been inspiring for the Heritage Council to witness the creativity and commitment driving the transformation of heritage places. These revitalisation projects not only preserve the cultural and historical significance of these sites but also ensure they continue to enrich vibrant, connected communities.
Last year, the Council also engaged with community members and the heritage sector through regional visits, heritage workshops, Fremantle's State Heritage Conference and the Western Australian Heritage Awards ceremony, strengthening collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the sector.
Council members attended events and festivals across the state supported by the Council's Sponsorship Program. These events play an important role in supporting local businesses and local governments while boosting cultural heritage tourism.
The Council acknowledges the contribution outgoing members Alan Kelsall and Catherine Lezer brought to the board over their tenure, and thanks them for their service.
Two new members have been appointed to the Council. Kyle Jeavons and Pippa McIntosh both commenced four-year terms from 1 January 2026 and attended their first meeting on Friday 16 January 2026.
The Council remains focused on protecting, conserving and celebrating Western Australia's history, and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the community.
The images below capture some of these visits and conversations, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this important work.
