Regiment Celebrates Legacy Connection

Department of Defence

Every year during the Legacy Week Appeal, the charity reaches out to the community for donations to help continue its important work, and every year, members of 1st Signal Regiment are there to support them.

For more than 25 years, members from the unit have taken to the streets of Brisbane, raising money through donations and sales of badges, and the iconic Legacy bears.

For a century, Legacy has played a crucial role in supporting the families of veterans who have lost their lives, assisting widows and children of deceased or injured service members since 1925.

Second in Command of 101 Signal Squadron at Brisbane-based 1st Signal Regiment, Captain Erin Yelland, said it was an honour to contribute to the cause, and continue the unit's tradition.

"It is extremely important that Defence maintains its relationship with Legacy, and it is something that 1st Signal Regiment has done for 25 years now," she said.

"From our unit's perspective, we have Legacy actively supporting the family of one of our members at the moment.

"Knowing the support from Legacy is helping people our unit knows and cares about makes it especially important to us."

The regiment raised an estimated $25,000 for Legacy Brisbane during this year's appeal.
