Regional communities across the state will soon benefit from improved walking, cycling and other important transport links, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced more than $1 million will be provided towards projects across the state, including in regional Victoria with new bus stop shelters at Lake Tyers, Willow Grove, Sale and Heyfield.
Through the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, the Labor Government is providing funding to councils and community organisations for small-scale transport projects.
Partnering with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, communities in Central Victoria will benefit from the development of a series of pathways to schools, providing safer connections to public transport, school facilities and the general community in Gisborne.
Victoria's North Western region will benefit from several pedestrian upgrades, including a new missing link footpath along Central Springs Road in Daylesford, in partnership with the Hepburn Shire Council - making access to services like the kindergarten, childcare centre, primary school and Main Street more safe and accessible for families.
A series of missing link footpaths will also be built in partnership with Mildura Rural City Council, while Robinvale will benefit from a new footpath and pedestrian crossing on Latje Road - providing better connections to the hospital, sporting grounds and other facilities thanks to a joint project with the Swan Hill Rural City Council.
Residents of Newstead, Maldon and surrounds will have access to a low-cost electric vehicle service, providing
flexible, door-to-door community transport, through a project with Newstead Rural Transaction Centre.
Together with Open House, a not-for-profit organisation, the Labor Government is helping at-risk primary school children receive assisted transport so they can continue their schooling at Olympic Village Primary School in Heidelberg West and receive welfare support services.
Partnering with the Ararat Rural City Council, locals and retirement village residents will benefit from a new 300-metre missing link path along Albert Street and a path at Walkway Reserve, providing a safer, more accessible connection to the Gordon Street Recreation Reserve and the town centre.
The Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program has supported more than 200 projects across Victoria that will better connect communities.
As stated by Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams
"We're backing local projects that make a real different for communities - from new bus shelters and footpaths to safer walking routes to schools - because we know that better connections means better opportunities."
"These projects will help promote an active and healthy lifestyle, while also providing more options for walkers and cyclists to get to school, public transport and recreational centres."
