Transport Canberra is encouraging the community to 'Register to Ride' for free bus travel to Anzac Day ceremonies at the Australian War Memorial on Saturday 25 April 2026.
Ian McGlinn, Executive Branch Manager Bus Operations Transport Canberra, said the arrangements ensure people can access ANZAC Day ceremonies safely and with minimal disruption.
"Anzac Day commemorations mean a lot to Australians, and we want to reduce barriers to members of the Canberra community looking to attend the Dawn Service or National Ceremony. As we have done in previous years, Transport Canberra is offering travel on chartered bus services to these events, available to passengers who Register to Ride for free through our website," Mr McGlinn said.
"Registering to ride is simple and provides Canberrans with peace of mind knowing that they can attend events at the Australian War Memorial on Anzac Day without navigating road closures or the stress of finding a car park nearby."
"Registering to ride also allows Transport Canberra to monitor passenger demand and for our bus services in the lead up to the day."
Register to Ride pick-up locations for the Dawn Service include:
- City Interchange Platform 4
- Westfield Belconnen Platform 1
- Gungahlin Interchange Platform 3
- New Woden Interchange Platform 6
- Tuggeranong Interchange Platform 8
In addition to the pick-up locations for the Dawn Service, continuous loop shuttles will operate from Russell Offices and the Canberra Centre (Ainslie Avenue). Continuous loop shuttle buses specifically for the National Commemorative Service, which includes the RSL ACT Branch Veterans' March, will pick-up from Russell Offices and the Canberra Centre only.
Return services for both the Dawn Service and the National Commemorative Service will depart approximately 20 minutes after each ceremony. Passengers do not need to register for their return journey.
"Places are limited, so jump online and secure your place to ride with Transport Canberra to Anzac Day events at the Australian War Memorial."
Throughout the day, Transport Canberra bus and light rail services will operate on a public holiday (Sunday) timetable and frequency on both Anzac Day public holiday, Saturday 25 April 2026 and the declared public holiday, Monday 27 April 2026.
"Passengers who wear or display service medals are eligible for free travel on any Transport Canberra bus or light rail service on Anzac Day," Mr McGlinn said.
*Note, light rail services will not commence until 7am on Anzac Day. Only buses can be used to attend the dawn service from one of the locations above.
