The Tasmanian Liberal Government is currently progressing a range of initiatives that will help boost the supply of housing and land, support home ownership and put downward pressure on rents.
One of these, the Residential Land Rebate, is helping to bring new residential land to market by providing rebates to offset the cost of installing power, water and sewerage infrastructure to new lots.
The $15 million program is a Tasmanian Government initiative to help boost the availability of residential land and improve housing availability.
To date, nearly $5.5 million in rebates (about one‑third of the program funding) has already been allocated and more than 650 lots of new residential land unlocked across Tasmania, with more to come.
To receive the rebate, applicants need to bring the land to market within 12 months of the rebate being paid.
This 55-lot subdivision at Sorell is one of the many land developments which have progressed due to the Government's Residential Land Rebate program.
As a Government, we are taking immediate action to remove barriers and costs to encourage further land activation. The program will boost construction certainty and create more jobs in the civil and building construction sectors.
This program will ensure more Tasmanians are able to access residential land to build their home.
This program is part of a suite of programs to help meet housing demand, including our $30 million Building Construction Support Loan Scheme, our $10 million Building Projects Support Program, and $2.5 million Ancillary Dwelling Grants Program.
The Tasmanian economy continues to perform strongly, with demand for land and housing at all-time highs.
Now more than ever, it's important that we take action to meet increased demand for housing as a result of Tasmania's economic strength, increased employment and growing population.
The Residential Land Rebate has been warmly welcomed by industry and stakeholders.
