Wonga Close Park in Kewarra Beach will be renamed Balabira Park.
Traditional Owners of the area were contacted and suggested a dual name for the park, with the request for the use of Balabira, which is the Yirrganydji (Irukandji) word for "curlew".
Council consulted with residents living in the of the park, with a high response, which indicated strong support for name Balabira Park.
This resolution needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 28 July 2021.
