The Crisafulli Government has today welcomed the report of the Parliamentary Inquiry into Elder Abuse in Queensland following its investigation into the devastating consequences of elder abuse.

The Inquiry received 120 written submissions from members of the public, members of Parliament and stakeholders, including Caxton Community Legal Centre, Aged and Disability Advocacy Australia, Council on the Ageing Queensland and the Queensland Council of Social Services.

Committee hearings were held across Queensland, including Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Cherbourg, Townsville and Cairns.

Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services Amanda Camm said the Crisafulli Government was committed to protecting older people from harm.

"Establishing the Parliamentary Inquiry into Elder Abuse was a key election commitment, and a priority outlined in our First 100 Day Plan," she said.

"It is a clear reflection of our dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of older people in Queensland.

"Elder abuse is a silent epidemic in our society that affects an estimated 15 per cent of older Australians.

"This is unacceptable. Older people deserve to live their lives free from all forms of abuse and neglect.

"We welcome the findings of the Committee and will carefully examine their recommendations and provide a response in the New Year."
