Reported sighting of a baby floating in water - Yarra Bay

A large-scale search is due to recommence today (Monday 8 February 2021) following a report of an object believed to be baby seen floating in the water in Sydney's south east.

About 5pm yesterday (Sunday 8 February 2021), emergency services were called to Yarra Bay, La Perouse, after a report a baby was apparently deceased in the water.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended the scene and commenced an investigation. They were informed by several witnesses that they had seen an object that they believed was to be a baby wrapped in a plastic bag floating in the shallow water.

A multi-agency search of the area was initiated which included assistance from the Police Marine Area Command, Polair, Public Order & Riot Squad and several rescue helicopters and NSW Ambulance.

Due to poor visibility, and no further sightings of the object, the search was suspended at 7:45pm.

The search is due to recommence at 7am.
