Saving South Australian jobs and supporting key industries and local businesses survive throughout an unprecedented economic emergency will be the focus of an immediate $650 million Jobs Rescue Package to be unveiled by the Marshall Liberal Government today.
Details of the package – which brings the state's total economic response to $1 billion – will be discussed with leaders on a newly-established Industry Response and Recovery Council brought together by Premier Marshall to help inform the state's immediate and ongoing response to the significant economic challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic.
Many of the state's key industries - from business, property, retail, construction and housing to tourism, primary industries, food, wine and hospitality – are represented on the 14-member Council.
"This is, without question, the greatest economic emergency of our generation and our collective response must be equally as potent," said Premier Marshall.
"We recognise the enormous economic challenges confronting our key industries, their employers and staff as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the necessary restrictions imposed to limit its spread.
"Not only is my Government doing everything in its power to help save lives throughout this crisis, but we are acting swiftly and decisively to help save livelihoods – to ensure South Australians are supported to get through this period and emerge stronger and more resilient.
"That's why I've brought together industry leaders to help advise the Government as we deliver the second part of our significant economic stimulus – a $650 million Jobs Rescue Package.
"This complements the $350 million we announced earlier this month, focused on shovel-ready infrastructure maintenance jobs such as hospital and road upgrades as well as tourism infrastructure, as well as the Federal Government's massive $83.6 billion economic injection.
"Now, more than ever, we must work together – utilising our shared expertise and experience to ensure we protect as many industries, businesses and local jobs as possible."
