Research Boosts Basin's Scientific Insight

MDBA

MD-WERP Governing Panel Chair Professor Rob Vertessy said the program took a holistic approach building on previous and concurrent research and included the assessment of cultural and social aspects for the first time.

"It's been a fantastic program to zero in on what really matters, and to better understand how scientific research can actually help the policy and management planning process," said Professor Vertessy.

"By bringing practitioners and researchers together, MD-WERP has made a strong contribution to enhancing understanding of the Murray-Darling Basin across environmental, social, cultural, and economic dimensions."

Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) Director of Science Programs Nicole Carroll said the MDBA is drawing on this research to help inform the Basin Plan Review.

"This research shows just how diverse and vulnerable the Basin's ecosystems and communities really are," Ms Carroll said.
