A further 500 new homes will be unlocked in Rockhampton with construction of a critical infrastructure project set to be fast-tracked under the Crisafulli Government's landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund.
The Crisafulli Government has today announced funding of $4.3 million under the Residential Activation Fund will support the construction of a critical project in Rockhampton which will unlock 505 new homes.
The Residential Activation Fund will deliver a $4.3 million boost towards road connection upgrades, including lights and traffic signage, as well as stormwater infrastructure to support the Living Gems Rockhampton Retirement Village development.
It comes just months after the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie visited Rockhampton where he announced $27.58 million of the Residential Activation Fund would fast-track three critical projects which will unlock 3,600 new homes in Central Queensland.
Under the former Labor Government, housing lot approvals slumped by 29 per cent, leading to record-low rental vacancy rates and a skyrocketing social housing waitlist across Queensland.
The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund has received 178 submissions – 64 from South East Queensland and 114 from regional, rural and remote Queensland.
The Crisafulli Government's 2025-26 Budget is delivering up to $1 billion for round one of the Residential Activation Fund, doubled from the original $500 million, in response to the overwhelming support and availability of shovel-ready projects.
Round one funding focuses on the construction of critical trunk infrastructure needed such as water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and roads needed to unlock new residential developments and ease Labor's Housing Crisis.
The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is a key pillar of the Crisafulli Government's Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan and is breaking down the barriers for infill and greenfield developments.
The Fund will deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders and support one million new homes by 2044 with at least 50 per cent of the overall funding to be invested in regional and remote Queensland.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the Residential Activation Fund was set to unlock thousands of new homes across Queensland.
"The Crisafulli Government's landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is delivering for Rockhampton, unlocking much-needed housing sooner and easing Labor's Housing Crisis," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"This $4.3 million investment in Rockhampton will give more Queenslanders a place to call home after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.
"The Residential Activation Fund is just one way the Crisafulli Government is creating jobs, unlocking housing and ensuring that Queensland continues to manage population growth, address housing affordability and protect the lifestyle of local communities."
Member for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland said the Crisafulli Government's Residential Activation Fund would unlock much-needed housing in Central Queensland.
"This $4.3 million investment in Central Queensland will unlock a further 500 new homes just months after the Crisafulli Government announced $27.58 million of Residential Activation Fund funding would unlock 3,600 new homes," Ms Kirkland said.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for more Queenslanders sooner and easing Labor's Housing Crisis in Central Queensland."
Member for Keppel Nigel Hutton said this critical investment in Central Queensland would futureproof the region for years to come.
"After a decade of decline under the former Labor Government, the Crisafulli Government is backing regional Queensland and investing in critical projects unlocking a total of 5,600 in Central Queensland through our Residential Activation Fund," Mr Hutton said.
Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said this was another great win for the region and would ensure more homes, and importantly, a greater diversity of housing stock was brought to the market.
"We know we need to tackle the housing crisis at every section of the market and ensure there is a greater diversity of housing stock to meet local residents and families changing needs," Mayor Williams said.
"These investments will not only deliver new homes but actively reduce pressure in other areas of the market. That's as good thing and a good thing for Rockhampton."
