Residents kept in touch about planned intersection upgrade in Dalton Street

Orange City Council is writing to residents in the neighbourhood of a planned intersection upgrade at the corner of Dalton and Sampson Streets.

Orange City Council has received funding from the Australian Federal Government's Blackspot Program to complete an intersection upgrade on Dalton Street and Sampson Street. This intersection has qualified due to the accident history over the past 5 years. The works will involve:

  • Installation of a raised hot mix asphalt intersection (similar to the intersection of Anson Street and Matthews Avenue).
  • Installation of pedestrian medians on Sampson Street (north side and south side of the intersection)
  • Changing of the traffic prioritisation to Dalton Street from Sampson Street for improved traffic flow. This means the current give way signs on Dalton Street will move to Sampson Street, allowing for Dalton Street to have the priority.

Under the NSW Roads Act 1993, Section 29, Council is required to give adjoining landowners notice of proposed change to the existing road level. The upgrade is expected to increase the height of the road surface in the intersection by up to approximately 110mm (11cm). Neighbourhood letters were mailed this week.

Information about the work can be viewed online from the Sampson & Dalton intersection community plan. Plans for the project can also be viewed at the Orange City Works Depot at 270 McLachlan Street (Monday to Friday 7 am to 4pm). For convenience please phone ahead to make an appointment so that a council officer can be available to explain the plans and answer any questions you may have.

Adjoining land owners are entitled to make submissions to council with regards to the proposed road alteration. All submissions are to be made to council by 20 September 2021 by:
